New York: Harper & Row, (1972).
Hardcover. 1st edition, full cloth, with illustrated dust jacket. Specially signed by both Kumin and Swan on the half title page in black ink. This was the Pulitzer Prize winning poetry title for 1973, the text includes forty-one poems by Kumin and seventeen pen-and-ink drawings by Barbara Swan. Swan, Kumin, and poet Anne Sexton were personal friends, and Swan also illustrated Sexton's Pulitzer Prize winning book, LIVE OR DIE (Houghton Mifflin, 1966). The trio (Kumin, Swan, and Sexton) were friends from the early days when the women received grants from the Radcliffe Institute for Independent Study. Their relationship at Radcliffe is profoundly discussed in Maggie Doherty's book, THE EQUIVALENTS (Knoph, 2020). A fine copy in complete (not price clipped) jacket, showing only minimal wear.
