Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1971.
Hardcover. 1st edition, limited (1/500) signed, full red cloth, AEG, with original publisher's glassine, and publisher's slipcase. The first printing of Sexton's monumental fifth book of poetry, published at the height of her career. Barbara Swan provided the illustrations. The relationship between Sexton and Swan at Radcliffe is profoundly discussed in Maggie Doherty's book, THE EQUIVALENTS (Knoph, 2020). Kurt Vonnegut provided the four page Foreword to this collection. A beautiful presentation of Sexton's work, all edges gilt trimmed, and includes the potentially fragile original glassine, with slipcase. The present copy is very bright in slipcase with only the slightest hint of sunning. Overall fine condition. Item #6728
