London: John Lehmann, (1949).
1st U.K. edition, full orange cloth, with dust jacket. A presentation copy of the author's second book, inscribed to poet Ruth Pitter: "For Ruth Pitter, / with admiration-- / Theodore Roethke" in purple fountain pen ink on the half-title page. The poet Carolyn Kizer wrote, in her contribution to RUTH PITTER: HOMAGE TO A POET (1969): "It is a great pity that my old friend Theodore Roethke is no longer with us, as he worshipped her work, in fact introduced me to it. . ." This collection publishes many of Roethke's most popular poems, including "My Papa's Waltz," "Moss-Gathering," "The Lost Son," and many others. An important association copy, the U.K. edition is seldom found inscribed. Aging to lightly spotted jacket includes small nicks and tears to crown and tail of spine. Otherwise, this unique signed association copy is in lovely condition. Item #6638
