Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1966.
Hardcover. 1st edition, full cloth, with illustrated dust jacket (as issued). A unique signed, inscribed, association copy of Sexton's Pulitzer Prize winning third collection of poems. The jacket illustration is by Barbara Swan, Sexton's friend and favored illustrator. The relationship between Sexton and Swan at Radcliffe is profoundly discussed in Maggie Doherty's book, THE EQUIVALENTS (Knoph, 2020). The present copy is inscribed to the book's jacket illustrator, Barbara Swan, and to Swan's husband. The inscription reads: "For Barbara and Alan -- / with love -- / Anne Sexton" in blue ink on the FEP. Additionally, the jacket itself is signed by Barbard Swan on the inside front flap in blue ink. Seldom found signed, this association copy between author and illustrator is unique. Moderate sunning and chip to crown of jacket spine, else fine and not price clipped. Uncommon thus. Item #6536
