An original handwritten postcard by T. S. Eliot, accepting an invitation to a party hosted by bibliophile John Carter. The card is addressed in Eliot's hand to Mrs John Carter / 16 Bedford Grdens / N. 8. The original postmark from Chelsea (London) is dated "15 Dec 1950" and a second postmark from Hornsey "24 Dec 1950" as the card was redirected through the mail. John Carter was the author of the seminal ABC FOR BOOK COLLECTORS (Knopf), and was "one of the greatest living authorities on book collecting" at the time of the book's publication. Additionally, Mr Carter authored and/or edited for Soho Bibliographies. The verso of the card is a black and white photo of the Chicago Union Stock Yards of Swift & Company with an industrial skyline in the background. Minimal wear, else fine condition. Item #6396
