"This first volume of his poems has already been chosen as the important Lamont Poetry Selection of the Academy of American Poets" (from the jacket) and the present copy has the Lamont card tipped to the FEP. This was only the second title to be selected for the Lamont award "for the discovery and encouragement of new poetic genius" (from the tipped in card). This title was also a National Book Award Finalist in 1956. Among many other awards, Donald Hall was appointed as the fourteenth U. S. poet laureate in 2006.
